My obsession with Marc Jacobs started during my freshman year of high school. He used such bright colors, prints, and best of all he was youthful unlike the stuffiness these huge fashion houses were sending down the runway. Of course I could never afford him, but instead I would tear out pages from any magazine that featured his work and plaster it all over my walls. He was the first real man in my life. And so started the mission of collecting his pieces and the end of my savings account. I mean there is still five bucks in it, but basically there's nothing really. Literally working just to acquire new investments.
At first it started with small things, like a key chain, then it gradually grew to jewelry, clothing, and finally the mecca of it all... His handbags. Buying my first MJ bag felt amazing, and kind of scary since I spent $600 in under ten minutes. I've never before spent that much on a handbag since I was used to fast fashion prices. But then, I took it everywhere, and the fact that it's still around (a whole decade + some years later) and in tact means something. It means that Marc will never let me down.
This last year has been... Marc free since I need to settle down, save, and put my life together. Perhaps get a salary instead of freelancer's check. But, trust me when I tell you that I do still lust, like crazy, and sometimes he reappears out of no where and for insanely cheap. For example, I went thrifting at Beacon's Closet and found this amazing MJ jacket for $50. The perfect statement jacket for fall. I mean, just look at all the gadgets he put on this thing. He just makes fashion so much fun.
For this look I kept it basic with black since this jacket is so over the top (aka amazing). I also piled on the gold as a nod to the 90s trend we've been seeing so much of lately.
Oh, fashion crushes how they make us lust, want, and appreciate.
P.s. There comes a time in every fashion blogger's life when they appear in the style section of the New York Times. Last week was my time to shine, take a look here!
