Pulling Out the Knits

Holy cow, one more week until I'm on a plane to the Middle East! I'm so psyched but somehow so unpacked. Make sure you're following along on Instagram & Snapchat (search thestyleboro).

The temps here are a little bit bipolar but figured what better time than now to start my fall transitions here on the blog and start busting out all my favorite sweaters. A soft knit and even softer leggings are basically the elements to my happy place.

Now is also a good time to look at all the knits we loaded up on from previous years and see which ones need mending to or plain need to go. Once you got that all sorted out, figure which knits you need: an all black soft one, a chunky turtleneck, or one to feel your best in.

A few stores to keep in mind would be Boohoo.com (very affordable prices), J. Crew, Nordstroms (they carry a little bit of everything). I found this one at Boohoo.com and love the oversized fit & feel. If anything I would recommend to size down if purchasing. I paired it with my skinny jeans and classic keds since today will be spent running all over town and settling any last minute business.

What's your favorite part about fall fashion?

My Favorite Shower Essentials

Please raise your hand if daily showers are deemed a necessity in your life. Alright me too.

Growing up in a house full of kids, showers were the one thing I absolutely loved. My young naive self would stay in there for hours. But my friends, the prep - that was the best part. I'd save up my allowance and hit up the Bath & Body Works sales as if I were prepping for an Armageddon. (Priorities am I right?). With my mom being an Avon rep the hoarding of bath products tripled.

Then I realized it's probably smarter to store canned foods and stop being so wasteful with water. If anything its better to maximize my time with products that ooze spa-bliss. Enter Molton Brown, a favorite I discovered on the UES thanks to its proximity to Hunter College. The line is full of luxurious scents and amazing exfoliants. Whenever I run out of a particular scent I play Russian Roulette and try something new from them.

This month I went with Eucalyptus in body soap, lotion, and the body scrub. It's definitely not your typical floral fragrance but it reminded me of my first sister trip to Australia and how amazing the air smelled. When applied the scent isn't powerful (which I love) and combined with the shower's steam basically feels like aromatherapy. Molton Brown also carries travel sizes of everything (it's a bit more affordable if you want to give it a go) but I think I'm going to bottle up a little bit of this and pack it for my trip.

Pro tip: their exfoliator is UH-mazing and comes in a pretty big tub that has lasting power. The sugar granules purify the skin, soften and exfoliate, and the mint aroma helps lift your mood. If you're into sunless tanning, I recommend using the exfoliator before hand to help create a smooth base for application.

The Fourth Wall

Hey guys, I've been spending a lot of time going through older posts and reread a few (okay a lot). There were some that got deleted cause inapprops, a lot about music + films, but most of them were honest.

I really miss that - having a platform to express my opinions, art work and more. In a way this blog really started out as my scrapbook (and dating horror stories). From coffee shops, classrooms, and delayed trains, I'd write from from anywhere that was steady enough to make sure I captured my thoughts from that day. I've even had a few encounters with readers - my mom didn't even read my blog back in 2008! But they connected with my honest posts of going through bouts of depression & PTSD struggles, dating, work woes... You know, life in general. You'll still find me writing on the subways (some habits never break) but not as frequently or as intimately.

The first time a reader approached me in real life I realized how strongly they resonated with my entries. How I made a difference just by being open - they didn't feel alone in their struggle. Over time though I haven't been as candid because well... Employers tend to google you and girlfriend didn't want any awkward moments. But I'm kind of over that if it means being able to tell my story and let the world know - shit happens, we get through it, and we get stronger.

Hopefully I didn't come off as corny but it's time I started being a little more honest so we can all connect on a deeper level. And if not that, at least you can all laugh with me. From now on expect monthly updates or vlogs where we can catch up and be real.

Besos!
