A New Routine: Good For You Cleansing Oil

I’ve mentioned my flare-ups with hormonal acne in the past and wanted to dive into a few products that help keep the whiteheads at bay. I know, doesn’t sound very glamorous does it. Now image how I feel walking into meetings with these huge beauty brands and a major break out – not cute when you’re trying to do a major pitch.

I’ve tried everything under the moon (including derm visits) to help keep the situation under control. Although my skin can handle a lot I’ll admit it’s not always gentle on my skin. For August I figure it’s time to let my skin to breathe (i.e. take a makeup cleanse), simplify my skincare routine, and use products that are all around gentle and natural.

I did some research online and learned that washing with cleansing oil is not only gentle on the skin but really effective at washing away the day’s gunk from your skin. Some oils can even have an aromatherapy effect on you – depending on its scent. The second part of my research took me to Target, where I always end up leaving with more items then needed. Oops!

Target carries some amazing brands but wanted to stick with Burt’s Bees since their products are always 99% natural and their natural ingredients guide is made readily available on their website. I beelined straight to the Burt’s Bee Facial Cleansing Oil - a new product from their line - easily found in the skincare aisle at my local Target as shown below. I decided to grab their Natural Acne Solutions Pore Refining Scrub as well since I love to use 1x a week to get rid dull skin and dark spots (it works wonders on elbows + knees as well). If you use Target's Cartwheel app make sure to save 10% with this deal.

For a simplified cleansing routine all I do is first apply the Facial Cleansing Oil onto dry hands and massage over my dry face followed by a rinse. I'm never left with oily skin either. Once a week I follow this with the exfoliator, which follows the same directions except on wet skin. So far I love the ease of this perfect duo and how my skin feels moisturized (not at all oily) and refreshed. There haven’t been any new breakouts either - this cleansing oil is non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores). At night the scent of the cleansing oil lulls me to sleep.

Overall my skin has been feeling hydrated and clean at a time it needs it the MOST with this duo.

Summer Into Fall Fitness Favorites

It's been a pretty long time (more than a year to be exact) since I rounded up my favorites when it comes to the fitness department. So what better time than the present to tally up what's been working for me throughout summer and will continue to make workout class a breeze come fall.

Before we get into the nitty-gritty let's get the gunk off our face and prevent clogged pores. I'm going to admit I've been trying A LOT of different face wipes but these from Dickinson's keeps my skin calm during breakouts or after an intense class. I've been doing a Retina-A treatment for my acne and this has reduced flare-ups for me which my skin appreciates.

At the top of my list were a few standout pieces from Lucy. I've ran multiple races (including the Brooklyn Half), sweated through bikram, and improved my bicep curls - all with pieces from this line. I've never worried about leggings being see-through or fabrics not wicking my sweat fast enough, instead I've been impressed with the fit and technology behind Lucy. If you're looking to start building out your fitness gear I highly recommend you start here even if you start small.

To make sure my activewear lasts but without the funky smell I've been using Febreze In Wash Odor Eliminator. It really gets rid of the stink so confident enough to wear my clothes without a sniff check. In case you're wondering, my tops and bras get washed after every sweaty session. For pants, they can last about two wears (or two semi-sweaty classes) before needing a good Febreze Wash. The scent isn't overpowering either which I like.

What goes on my feet is equally important. As an active runner I tend to change my shoes every 6 months or if they start to give out. I've tried quite a few different brands and styles but Saucony's Guide are a repeat offender. The sneakers have enough bounce and arch support for my very flat feet. Let's not forget socks! They need love too. These from Bombas keep my feet blister free mile after mile. I don't feel too bad about keeping my sock drawer filled with these guys either; for every pair bought there's a pair donated.

Lastly, Sha-Glam is my go-to after my long runs & HIIT classes. It's really important to stretch and repair our muscles and this protein shake makes it really easy to do that. Now I need to get better about stretching. The drink is diary-free, soy-free, gluten-free and every single ingredient is GMO-free. It's not vegan but if you're looking for a vegan option I highly suggest DailyBurn.

The Casual Red Lip

You guys, I'll never be too old for these heart-framed sunnies.

My entire office poked fun at me for wearing these frames, but this entire look had a great synergy between them. My only conclusion is that the office wasn't on my level yet haha.

I've also been on a red lip binge. Last week I gave Estée Lauder's Envious a whirl, this week I'm trying out Charlotte Tilbury's So Marilyn a try. To be honest I didn't know what to expect since the packaging didn't follow a particular brand voice or style, but the lipstick was creamy and easy to apply. The color was also very pigmented and worked well with my complexion.

If you're in the market for a gorgeous shade try it out but make sure you also get a lip exfoliating treatment to go along with it. It'll ensure your lips are always super smooth for the best application. I love this one from Fresh and if you're a Sephora VIB there's no reason to buy it since they'll always gift you with one during your birthday week (#winwin).

Overall, if the heart shaped sunnies aren't your thing skip the frames and go for everything else including the red lip!
