Let's Talk Juicing!

Right off the bat, my diet is something I've always struggled with. I'm constantly reaching for sweets or oversalted snacks and neglecting the leafy greens and barely know how to peel a tangerine.

I do get a little better about hydrating when in training mode, but I know I could do better. According to the 80/20 rule, I could actually work out less if I put more effort into eating cleaner. Which, I did none of while in Nashville. No regrets either way.

Since this year is turning out to be a huge one for me I'm going to put more of an effort to eat cleaner, hydrate more, and work out smarter. If you're interested, I could share more of what I'm eating. Until then, I'm keeping track of my meals & water intake with my Fitbit.

After making this commitment it's time to clean the slate which I tend to do by juicing. Now, I'm not the best at juicing and find it extremely hard but mama didn't raise no quitter.

Now there are tons of Juice companies out there, but I wanted to keep it local and with one that never disappoints when it comes to 100% blended goodness - Jus by Julie. They were kind enough to send out a one-day cleanse to test out. Unfortunately, I lasted about four hours before supplementing my cleanse with lots of steamed veggies.

But here are a few tips to ensure your best cleanse yet:

1. Be Prepared
This means avoiding any fried or processed foods (including alcohol) a few days prior to your cleanse. During this time, you should also be drinking lots of water and getting in quality sleep. By the way, the above is guaranteed to give you glowing skin from the inside out if you make it a lifestyle change.

2. Right Timing
If you want to be successful, make sure the timing is right. A day following vacation or during an intense training period might not be the prime choice. Instead, aim for a day that is low-key and will allow you to focus on the cleanse. Next time I cleanse I'll opt for a Sunday which has always been reserved as my homebody day.

3. Be Easy on Yourself
Just because I didn't complete the cleanse as it was structured out doesn't mean I failed. Look at the positives - I fueled my body with amazing good-for-me ingredients and hydrated along the way. At the same time, I learned a lot about how my body works and figured cleanses are better once a season (for me) and that getting a few key weekly juices (Dr. Green & Açai Blend are my current faves) in works better. And it's super easy to incorporate Jus by Julie into my week with their super easy subscription service or by simply walking into one of their four locations.

What's your take on juicing and are you incorporating it into your lifestyle?

Breezy Pieces // #MakeThemCry or Man-Repelling?

Woof. What a weekend.

Let's just say that I will never EVER head straight to the airport after a bar crawl. That was rough. On the positive side, I had all of Sunday to rest up before Monday came a knocking.

I still need time to digest (literally & figuratively) my Nashville trip so stay tuned for a recap and possible video. As for now let's focus on this date night ensemble.

If you remember from this and this post, I think culottes are so flattering on us tall girls. The illusion of curves they give on my athletic build is always a win-win. So when I came across this bare-back top from Tobi I already knew culottes would complement it perfectly.

In case, you're wondering why, it's because working out has shrunk my boobs (if we're being honest) so I needed a pair of pants that emphasized what little curves I had (culottes) and would be able to even out the volume from the top as well (culottes again).

I got this pair from Ann Taylor (who by the way are killing it this season) and thought all these pieces collectively made for a #MakeThemCry outfit. So here I am before you, wearing it and obviously making them cry. If they don't, I'll report back and update this as a man-repelling outfit instead.

Either way, one thing is true - this outfit makes me feel sexy as hell. Boobs or no boobs.

NYC: Let's Eat!

I'll be gorging on delicious BBQ this weekend but that shouldn't stop you from trying scarfing down something just as tasty. Here are a few recos for the weekend:

1. Burger Mexicano

This a relatively new restaurant in my nabe of PLG. So if you ever find yourself in Prospect Park or the Brooklyn Botanical Garden - make this your go-to dining spot for after. The burgers are out of this world and stacked with ingredients that only make perfect sense once you take that first bite. The margaritas (although too pricey for my taste) are so delicious - it only makes sense to order a pitcher. Trust... You will regret not ordering a pitcher once you're on your last sip. I haven't had brunch here yet, but highly recommend the namesake Burger Mexicano (it's a no-brainer).

2. Forget Me Not

I went here one sweltering day last fall for brunch and never had the chance to include it in a round-up. Probably because I fell into a food coma shortly after my dining experience. I didn't realize how much of a magnet this was for the "hipsters" but at the same time the food is amazing, the bloody mary revived me after my hangover, and the decor was so Instagrammable. Unfortunately, I was too hungover to take any snaps - but did feel blessed to come across and enjoy a banging meal here. If you're not in the mood for a hearty meal, head to their bar for delicious cocktails.

3. Don Chingon

Ever get so hungry that you can't even think straight and therefore can't make a decision on where to eat... So you end up at Subway. Yea me too. BUT, one day after walking for blocks and blocks while my stomach was eating itself I found myself at Don Chingon. It was pretty empty which made me think it was either pricey or bad, at the same time I could care less. So I plopped down and ordered. What arrived at my table were three fantastic tacos with the most amazing homemade tortilla shells. It was like I was transported back to my aunt's kitchen and of course ordered more tacos. The margaritas were bomb too - I opted for a spicy one to go with my tacos. This spot is a little pricey compared to other Mexican joints but at the same time... The food is so GOOD that it all evens out. And obviously, get the tacos if you go there.

4. Mission Cantina

So you're probably thinking "what's with you and all this Mexican food?" Girl, I can not help what my tummy lures me to and it's always been a no-fail option. The day I eat horrible Mexican food I'll probably curl up and die. ANYWAYS, Mission Cantina is a spot that is synonymous for having bangin' burritos that are anything but the usual Mexican fare. The chef Danny Bowien is always changing up the menu and experimenting which I love. If you're not into boring head here and try the Burritos (obvi) and the wings.
