Lost in Lebanon

After ten years, my sister and I finally headed out on our next adventure - Lebanon. I packed pretty light for two weeks, went without wifi, explored a city/country I never thought I'd travel to.

I have to apologize for the lack of updating on my social channels when halfway around the world, but whenever I tried pulling out a camera - we were asked to put it away. I did manage to take some great snapchats (find me: thestyleboro), teach my sister the art of #ootds, and have her take a few great photos on my phone.

Our great hosts took us to Beït Ed Dîne in Mont-Liban to check out a palace built in 1788. AKA the perfect chance for my sister and I to have an impromptu photo shoot without looking scandalous.

For our trip, I did some research on the climate and the nightclub scene (it is the party capital of the Middle East after all). After checking our itinerary, I packed printed cotton dresses, a few slacks, breathable tops along, sneakers for our walking tours and my favorite go-with-anything Swedish Hasbeens.

In case you were wondering, my sister tends to overpack so I just wore her things for our boozy nights out and went shopping in her suitcase for a dress to wear to the wedding.

What I wasn't prepared for was the humidity that lingered after a sandstorm. Holy cow - I've never sweated so much within moments of stepping outside.

Where We Went:
Beit Al Ezz - we got lost, gave up, and drank mocktails here
Leila - amazing Lebanese food
Beirut Souks - shopping center
Balthazar - amazing desserts
Seven Sisters - Outdoor nightclub for those who can hang
Music Hall - Live music and a definite must-do experience
Pigeon Rocks @ Raouche - You can spot these from your plane when arriving
Hamra Street - for the downtown experience
Abu Elie - a communist themed bar where we found a few expats
Zaitouna Bay - there were a few rooftop bars in this area that were awesome
Mohammad Al-Amin Mosque - right next to our hotel and where most protests were being held
The Jeita Grotto - not sure if this is a wonder of the world but it should be

There were so many places my sis and I wanted to scope out, but there wasn't enough time or we were dealt a bad hangover.

A few key takeaways from my experience: the people are incredibly nice, the food is delicious, the traffic is insane, Lebanese ladies are gorgeous, I can't hang when it comes to their nightlife,  there is SO MUCH HISTORY everywhere you look. And if you're curious - I felt completely safe walking around with my sister and without.

Lebanon, we will be back!

Inspiration: Looks I Love (Pt. 15)

I've fallen for the romantic styles and genuinely feel like it lends itself to my personality pretty well. I've always shied away from very feminine pieces since I always felt too athletic to be wearing ruffles. Instead, I try and mold myself into the urban category feeling not entirely like myself. Don't get me wrong - I love urban and minimalistic street style. But, for fall I decided to give the heart what it wants.

Here are a few inspirational looks I'm leaning towards this fall. Let me know what you think!

Let's Talk Layers + Lebanon

Ever felt like you needed a vacation from your vacation? That's me 100% right now. And I just got back from one.

I am so glad to finally sleep in my delicious bed with my cuddly creatures but wished I did a few things differently. For instance, I'm starting to regret the work I did abroad and being available via email. An overflowing inbox gives me anxiety, but I missed out on a few walking tours around Beirut. Should've listened to big sister when she said to disconnect. You live and you learn.

Lebanon was glorious you guys and I'm working on a video to share a few sights. My sis and I weren't able to see everything (safety first) but what we did see was full of color, culture, and epic history.

Who knew sandstorms could make for incredibly hot & humid days. If the sis and I didn't stop in Paris we probably would've had temperature shock (see: first world problems).

Paris was a few notches chillier than NYC but it gave me the perfect atmosphere to perfect the art of layering. For me, a strong layer game includes multiple pieces you can take off when the afternoon sun is just too hot. Another thing to keep in mind are layers that don't add bulk to your frame while keeping you warm.

Beanie: Jac Vanek (similar style)  Necklace: Custom (similar)  TopEquipment  (save)  Sweater: Charles Henry (love this)  Jacket: Joe Fresh  Leggings: similar  WatchRumbaTime  Lipstick: Borghese B Moisture in Berry  Boots:  Cat Footwear

To help perfect your layer game, find the perfect lightweight base. My Equipment shirt creates the perfect base and has been my smartest investment piece yet. The rest should fall into place - or better yet on top of with a thin-but-warm pullover. Scarves and beanies are of course optional.

A few other accessories to give some thought to (and possibly add to your wishlist) are the Cat boots and RumbaTime Gramercy Mesh watch. If I had to choose boots or heels, I'd stick with boots for all of entirety. I've also had my fair share of really awesome and sucky boots. These Paula boots from Cat Footwear lean towards awesome for being comfortable and versatile. The Gramercy Mesh watch Is an affordable piece that has upgraded my life in general. I always wear it when heading into meetings or dinner events - it's just so elegant.
