Overalls for Summer

Remember Piperlime? These Paige overalls were priced so low (under $50) I took the plunge and committed myself to trying out something new and scary.

I've already worn them on my trip to Disney World paired with a turtleneck and loved the look. However now that we're in the thick of summer turtlenecks are not going to fly. Since overalls are sort of a foreign concept I needed help from the fashion gods who commonly go by the name of #stylechat and Pinterest. I dived right into the deep internets and still came up empty - combinations of overalls and heels just aren't my thing during a weekend.

In the end I went with my gut and dressed for me. Relaxed and ready to tackle the weekend ahead.

I wore my Brooklyn sandals from Bearpaw to tackle any and all errands in Brooklyn and a white tee. I also kept my bucket bag filled my beauty favorites in case there was a boozy brunch calling my name or improntu dance party (I highly recommend the RollerLash mascara - it's amazing).

So how did I do? Knowing how my overall struggle is (get it) how would you style & conquer the overalls?

Five Friday Favorites

This month I found happiness in the beauty aisle (and Amazon) and it was glorious.

Briogeo_Cowash_review.jpg

1. Briogeo Be Gentle, Be Kind Avocado + Quinoa Co-Wash
This new-to-me brand consists of naturally derived ingredients and does an impressive job at keeping my curls hydrated and clean. Not to mention a little bit goes a very long way. I tend to go through bottles very quickly and so far this one has lasted through the month. I will admit that it's probably best to not use this on your scalp - better to aim on the midway on the hair-shaft and down. I did and it left me feeling a little too hydrated on top but then again it's the most gentle co-wash I tried ever.

2. Probelle TouchnGrow Plus Nail Hardener
I've been going through some nail drama lately - they feel brittle and tend to crack, especially my thumbs and forefingers (social media probs). Let me just say that if you feel something is abnormal about your nails do not google it. Actually, do yourself a favor and never google anything that relate to abnormalities or illness - you'll drown yourself in paranoia. ANYWAYS, I did a little research and came across Probelle, it's a little pricey but over the last two months my nails have had less breakage and have grown stronger. When I run out this will be a definite re-buy for me.

3. Sisley Paris Black Rose Cream Mask
THIS. I LIVE FOR THIS. The scent of this alone sends me over the edge and transports me into a whole new world. I swear it's just that good and for $162 it better be. I should also mention I received this as a small deluxe sample - the day I can afford $162 mask will be worthy of a blog post all on its own haha. This mask promises to act on the signs of aging and immediately hydrate skin. I'm not too sure about the anti-aging claims but each time I've used this my skin feels plumber and smooth. So, lesson of the story is if a store is giving away free deluxe samples of this find a way to get more than one.

4. Gucci Envy Me
I finally finished my bottle of Marc Jacobs Daisy and wanted to try something new, different, and a bit daring. Now, Gucci's Envy Me is nothing new but something I wanted to try for the longest. The hints of jasmine, peony, and sandalwood are basically 100% perfect for summer. The scent stays on forever and can last through the hot summer heat. I did a little more digging and found out this fragrance in particular has a strong cult following after since it's inception in 2008 which should speak for the scent itself.

5. SeabuckWonders Ultimate Hair, Skin & Nails Softgels
I always wanted to try out a supplement that benefits my hair, skin and nails and I finally decided to take the plunge with SeabuckWonders. These supplements Biotin & Omegas promote hydration, elasticity and regeneration. I'll give another update at the end of summer on how my hair and nails look but so far my nails like I mentioned have become stronger (in collaboration with the nail hardener) and my hair more resilient after taking these daily. But, so far so good!

Skincare Addiction: Asian Finds

Skincare, my new addiction. I've never had the best skin and always deal with the same pesky zit (sound familiar). Every now and then I'll randomly find myself on /r/AsianBeauty - a forum dedicated to making your skin look and feel its best with the help of Asian products.

It's been a good steady seven months of checking in, interacting, and trying new products either recommended or raved about by other users. Ladies, these are my precious finds:

For reference, I have combination skin with occasional hormonal flare-ups along my jawline. My skin is not sensitive in the slightest - it can handle a lot besides hormones. If your skin is sensitive, I recommend doing a patch test or introducing one product at a time and slowly (1-2x a week to daily) to see if there's a reaction.

Rohto Hadalabo Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion Moist.jpg

1 - Toner: Rohto Hadalabo Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion Moist
In search of a toner to replace my Caudelie, I instead came across this. This is different from American toners since it doesn't dry out your skin but instead helps your skin stay moisturized and absorbs anything else you layer on after (i.e. moisturizer serum or sheet masks). My face feels more plump and hydrated - overall healthier. I apply it to my skin right after I hop out of the shower when my skin is still moist.

Biore UV Aqua Rich Smooth Watery Gel Spf50 + / Pa ++++.jpg

2 - Sunscreen: Biore UV Aqua Rich Smooth Watery Gel Spf50 + / Pa ++++
They say that when you decide to build your skincare regimen, the first thing you should add (and apply everyday) is sunscreen. And for sunscreen you need to go abroad. Our domestic sunscreens will never rival those found around the world mainly because the FDA moves at a snail's pace. But I did the research on finding the best sunscreen that doesn't add to my summer sheen (grease-face) and is safe - and this Biore UV Gel is phenom. Great for face and body!

3 - Mask: TonyMoly Sheet Masks
Sheet Masks are buzz words right now and for good reason. When Tony Moly opened it's first stateside store the first thing I did was buy a ton of these: mainly to try them out (finally), it's great price points, and cute packaging. Once I tried them on it felt like a mini spa date (even if I was just sitting on the couch watching Netflix). They started stocking these masks at Sephora and Urban Outfitters. FYI: each mask has a specific treatment to target certain skin concerns - I love using their Rice masks for acne.

4- Face Mist: TonyMoly Pocket Bunny Moist Mist
I'm a mister. In the summer I'm even more hardcore about misting - it helps me stay cool and my skin hydrated. I use over or under my makeup and spritz throughout the day. Writing about it made me mist. Do you need to have this in your regimen? Probably not. However, if you have dry skin it might be something to consider adding to your everyday purse.

mizon_snail_recovery_gel.jpg

5 - Snail Recovery Gel Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream
Yes, this is composed entirely of snail mucus but hear me out. This gel has transformed my skin and my boyfriend's skin. My skin looks more even toned and the mucus actually (and rapidly) helps acne healing and scarring. It's also extremely moisturizing and banishes redness. Got sunburned? You can use this too! There's a reason this product is cult favorite when it comes to Asian skincare - it works and it's so affordable. If you're going to try any one of these five - try this one first!

Are you also into Asian skincare or skincare in general? Let me know if there's something I need to try in the comments.
