Fall Trends | The Suede Skirt

Better late than never! Here's a look back at what I wore during NYFW. The best part is this entire look is under $65! Well, strictly speaking to the clothes.

If you follow me on Instagram then you already know that my sister and I took a detour in Paris instead of diving head first into NYFW. Did I suffer from FOMO? Not in the slightest.

My sister and I bonded over good wine, amazing pastries, and getting lost on the metro. Priceless. There was actually one time when I couldn't unlatch the train doors quick enough (yes - they have a latching system of sorts across the Atlantic). You'd think a NY-er would be able to adapt quickly but nope.

When I got back and felt semi-alive from timezone hopping, I decided to do only one day of NYFW. More than one would be pushing it to be honest. Since it was going to be a very long one day affair I wanted an outfit that featured a few of the latest fall trends (suede & ruffles) but was easy on the wallet.

I was able to find a few trending pieces from Boohoo.com that worked with some of my favorite NYFW classics - like my coveted Miu Miu purse and recently purchased sunnies.

For those of you that followed NYFW (or went!), what were you favorite trends for SS2016? I need in on your notes :).

How To Wear Sweatpants to Work

On Thursdays (and a few other days that end in ‘y’) I reach for the ultimate lounge pants - sweatpants. Yas girl, we lounging today.

cute_winter_office_outfit_ideas.jpg

Even though there’s no lounging taking place at work, wearing sweatpants anywhere is pretty much THE best. For reference, I sit all day so avoiding that irritating red mark around my waist (maybe I should be pantless?) is kind of key. The only problem I can find (and it’s a pretty big one) is that sweatpants are a huge office no-no. Unless… it’s worn right.

I’ve been wearing this Lucy pair particularly to my AM Classpasses and found a loophole that benefits us all.  Plus, the fewer things I carry on my commute the less hate and shade I’ll get from other straphangers. (This shirt tends to get a few side-eye rolls but I gotta share the PSA).

There’s enough slouch in these pants that I can wear my Hatha shorts (underneath) on the way to class, remove these, and then wear (and relax in) the sweats all day after.

If you’re curious, it’s all in the footwear and fabric of what you choose to wear after the sweat session.

The polyester material in the pants has a nice sheen that makes them a bit more grown up for the office (keep that in mind when shopping). I also switch out my sneakers (when worn) to a cute pair of heels or booties and wear a white button-down top. This top is my fave since it doesn't wrinkle when packed.

I love black & white but it can feel a little school-uniformish, so I went with these blue suede shoes (my tried & true favorite). And of course, a little bit of bling.

Also, if you have not tried the Y7 yoga studios around NYC/LA, you should (on Classpass of course). I’ve been hitting their space weekly and it’s such an awesome way to start the day.

Layered in Neutrals

Time to start pulling out the light jackets that I have. Over the summer, I minimized my closet and pared certain categories to one or two pieces of each. Being a jacket fanatic a few years back, it felt refreshing to get more space in my bedroom.

As for the jackets, some were sold on Poshmark, others given to cousins-in-need, but most were up for grabs on Craigslist. By the way, my Craigslist free 99 encounters have all been so rewarding. Everyone I met has been so appreciative about their freebies. So, if any of you are looking to get rid of coats/jackets definitely donate them to a charity or a person in need on Craigslist - you'll feel so amazing afterwards!

In case you're wondering, this H&M jacket survived the purge. They're selling a similar one here and it's such a great deal - it's survived a whole year and keeps me comfortably warm.

And this watch from Follie Follie is the perfect starter watch for any office gal. It's so gorgeous in person and great for layering bangles and bracelets.

The color scheme is great for fall layering which is necessary when opting for booties and a mini skirt (which is basically my fall uniform). And if I ever get too hot, which tends to happen right around noon, I can always remove a layer and still feel well-dressed.

The key is sticking to neutrals. The colors in heavy rotation consist of: whites, grays, blacks, or dark blues. If that's not your jam I suggest going with: tan, browns, and one pop of color (maybe orange or red).

Since there was a meeting later this day, baubles were a definite must as the finishing touch. Baublebar tends to be my go-to for statement necklaces and bib-style necklaces.

As for my earrings, I found this gorgeous pair from MUJUS which offers handmade designs from sustainable materials. It's a pretty great socially conscious company ran by co-founder Paola and her artisan partners in South America. Definitely check them out if you're looking for unique pieces not offered at fast-fashion retailers.

Side note, I got my hair done in loose waves and kind of wish I had a glam team to recreate this hairstyle every day. Totally obsessed.
